Local Matters – Helping to feed the hungry

Last year, one of our wonderful volunteers Mandy Gilchrist, was kind enough to enter SOUL Soup Patrol to be one of the recipients of Grill’d Rockingham’s Local Matters programme.  How the programme works is that every time someone has a meal at Grill’d, they are given a token which they put into one of 3 jars.  Each jar represents a local community group, and the customer chooses who they would like to put their token towards.  At the end of the month, the tokens are counted from each jar.  The organisation who has collected the most tokens wins a prize of $300, while the other 2 places get $100 each.

For the month of December, SOUL Soup Patrol won the first prize of $300.  These funds were put towards buying food to stock our shelves in the kitchen to put in care packages for our needy clients.  Each week we have several clients who are struggling to make ends meet come in for a food parcel, and we have been steadily getting more and more people coming in over the past few months.  We rely solely on food and monetary donations from the public and from local businesses to stock our shelves, and are constantly blown away by the generosity of the Rockingham public.  The $300 from Grill’d Rockingham went a long way in helping those going hungry in Rockingham, and we are very grateful to be the recipients of their wonderful programme.
